How do I get from San Diego to Palmdale in public transportation in a reasonable amount of time and budget!?

Old Town is the closest to me and I would like to go home to palmdale the problem is I am a student gas is ridiculously high and not of the fares I've looked up are lower than the money it would take me to drive there myself!

well the best idea is take Amtrak (some trains do stop

at Old town) and take Amtrak to Los Angeles Union station

then you can change to Metrolink which will take to the Palmdale

transit center

note one alternate (you could also take Coaster to Oceanside

then metrolink to Los Angeles connecting to another metrolink train to Palmdale

the only problem with this idea is either the connecting is a little tight or its a long layover between the Coaster and Metrolink

that route would save you some bucks

plus you can buy a ticket Oceanside-palmdale

from the metrolink ticket machine in Oceanside
