How do I get from the Vatican to my port for my cruise?

I am going on a cruise in Feb. and I am flying in early so we can go see the Vatican before our cruise leaves. Is there a train or some cheaper way than a taxi to get from the Vatican City to the docks?

  1. Will you embark in Civitavecchia?

So, the best way to reach the port from the Vatican is by train.

Near the Vatican you have two subway stations (Ottaviano near San Pietro or Cipro near Vatican Museum).

Take the subway and go directly to Termini station; from there you can take a train to Civitavecchia, it takes about 1 hour. From the train station you can take a taxi or the shuttle bus service to the port, about 15 minutes far.

There are trains to Civitavecchia each 30 minutes. But if you prefer you can check it before and also buy your ticket online at http://www.trenitalia.com/en/index.html

Prefer the IC service - it is better and take only 45 minutes.

The train ticket costs €10,50 plus the subway €1.

Be sure about the deadline to have your check-in in the ship and the time you may be onboard! The indicated departure of the ship is the time that the ship has to leave the port; all passengers may be onboard at least 30 minutes before, and if you have to check-in, at least 1 or 2 hours before, check with the company.

Oh... i give you more information that can be useful.

When you arrive in Rome, you can also use the train service from Fiumicino airport to Termini station. Then you can leave you luggage there (they have this service at the station) and then take the subway or the bus 64 to Vatican. (I recommend the bus, so you can see also the city centre).

Here you can have more information about the luggage service.

Just take care about the time again, because the lugagge service can be crowded and you can loose some time to take it when you come back.

Don't be late, the ship doesn't wait!

Enjoy your cruise and Rome, it is wonderful!

  2. Someone asked this same question a few days ago and the responder said that there is train service.  The other option that you can try is call your cruise line and ask if transfers are available from Rome to and from the port.  If you did not have the transfers included in your initial cruise fee you can add them if they are available, not filled up.

You can also try this web site:

  3. call Bob's Limo in Rome (http://www.romelimousines.com/?gclid=CLG...  I used them a couple years ago and the service was great and reasonably priced.
