How do I get gobs of vaseline out of shag carpeting?

My 20-month-old got into the vaseline. Fun times.

Wipe it up then  apply shaving cream, rub it in, dry it with a cloth, works WONDERS.

I was wondering how this happened (before I read the second line).  

I guess good ole soap and water and a roll of paper towels.  What is left will dry on its own.

This sounds like when my little one got into eggs!  That was great!  If you don't have a carpet shampooer, clean up what you can with napkins, wipes, towels, whatever, then you'll have to use something like dish liquid or vinegar or something that will break up oil and grease, even some gojo or some sort of mechanics hand cleaner.  Just make sure if you have dark colored carpet that you test it somewhere that isn't going to be seen for color fastness.  Then you will have to use a spray bottle or something to wet the area with just water and soak up the chemicals, soap, vinegar whatever out of the carpet with towels or paper towels.  Good luck.

Oh, I clicked on this question cuz I just had to see

how vaseline got onto the carpet!  Ha.

Ok.  Well, I think your gonna have to bite the bullet

and either rent a rug cleaner, or hire a professional

rug cleaner company.

Your gonna need something with steam I would imagine

that will liquify it so it can be sucked up.

Now, how did your little "rug rat" get into the medicine

cabinet?  Thats where I keep mine anyway.

You could go to "Heloise Hints" and see what her

web site says.  Now that is probably a good idea too.

probably a unscented petroleum solvent and then shampoo really well.   99.99999999999999999% of these solvents are flammable.  Be VERY cafeful.

or you can try a very strong detergent.

either or may stain or fade the color of your carpet
