Question:

How do I get guardianship of my 15yr old sister?

She's actually my half sister. Our dad has custody of her but she no longer wants to live with him, or be anywhere near him. Her mom can't have custody of her because of her past and life style. I've recently found out about all the hardship my sister has gone through living with our dad. He's hit her to the point where he broke her nose. They got into an altercation last night. He hit her a lot, pulled her hair, and ripped most of her clothes up. She is right now staying at my aunts (without him knowing) until I can find a way to get guardianship of her. I don't want to get child services involved because I don't want her to go to a foster home. What can I do to have her stay with me without my dad accusing me of something? I've thought about asking him to give me guardianship, but I feel like he won't and will fight me for it. PLEASE HELP!! I'm concerned for her safety.

  1. ask your aunts about this. tell social services-she wouldnt be allowed to go bak with ur dad. u would then be able to gain gaurdianship of her, if thats wat she wants.

    best of luck!

  2. Tell your sister to tell your father to put her up for adoption, that way everyone will be happy and your sister will be with a family that she knows will love her for her

  3. you need to find a way to get guardianship of her soon,,, i really dont know how you can do that other then talk with the local courts near  your house and they should be able to help you

  4. contact family services at your local court house.  they can answer any questins that you have and you most likely wont need to use a lawyer.  Your sister is old enough to make up her own mind where she wants to live and not be abused, so the court certainly wouldnt make her go back to an abuse father.  They are there to help, call them.

    good luck
