Question:

How do I get her to pee?

My year old cat might have a UTI and the vet wants a urine sample... however, she is so well trained that she refuses to use the special non-absorbent litter and will not urinate anywhere else BUT her litter box. Any suggestions on how to get her to give me a sample? I have tried making a new box with the special litter, taking her litter box and placing a clear plastic bag over her regular litter, and I have tried placing the special litter on a see through bag over her regular litter. She just digs at it trying to get to her real litter box.

  1. "The litter the vet gave me is only about a cup and a half of plastic beads... that's my problem."

Ugh. My vet did the same dang thing! Only gave me this little teeny tiny bit. Why do they do that??????

I don't have any suggestions. I ended up having to have them express the bladder. There was no way the cat would pee in that tiny little pile of litter. It's silly.

    Good luck.

  2. try mixing her regular litter and the special litter together and gradually work the old litter out and ending with only the new litter.  may take a couple days but it should work

  3. well tire to do what you would with a kitten get a wet towel and rub it on her but and when she pees trie to make sure she does it on the thing see if that works

  4. I think your vet should get the urine sample but here is an idea. If you have some kind of cage or carrier to put her in temporarily, with no towels or newspaper, maybe she will pee. We do that sometimes at the animal hospital. We use syringe to draw it up. Otherwise, the vet needs to do this for you.

  5. Tickle her in the

    Special Spot!!!
