I am literally stressed out! And I need to take myself out of public school before I end up hurting myself emotionally! I have anxiety attacks! Because I am a g*y male who cannot be myself in school! Teachers in my school tell me they are just there to get payed and do not care about my future! And I am so stressed out! There are not any schools available for me the other schools are worse! With riots and shoot outs and all the good schools are either too far or booked up, and my mother is trying to get me home schooled by a home school teacher but she does not know how.... How can I? I really need your help....

P.S. I am kind of bad on grammar an really bad at algebra but my teachers tell me they have no time for me! And it hurts bad... I am going to be in 10th grade in LAUSD school district California.

  1. It varies state to state, I have provided a link below to help you start your research.  You might want to check out alternative school, or even home study: which is .... you collect assignments from school each week or so, and turn them in when you go to pick up more assignments.  This can be done with students with illnesses, and it sounds as though you should see your doctor and get him / her to help you with all this stress.

  2. I am so sorry you are having so much difficulty.  LAUSD is a terrible district, as you know.  It is therefore great that you are listening to the message of those panic attacks.

The first thing you need to do is check out the laws on homeschooling in California: http://www.hsc.org/Choices.html Then read the rest of the website, which will give you and your mom lots of good information.

There is also an excellent book written just for teens who want to homeschool: http://lowryhousepublishers.com/TeenageL...

All the best, and please take care of yourself.

    Be well.

  3. in Britain you can take yourself out of school at any time you need the support of your parent to express that you will be pursuing alternative education then it is up to your parent to hire home tutors.

  4. There are several online charter schools in CA that can help you that are free. You are best to go with one than to try to use tuitors. I suggest CA virtual academy since you said you not great with grammar and math. They will give you an online placement test that will then allow you to be put in the classes that are at your level.

    California Virtual Academies

    South Sutter Charter School

    Capistrano Connections Academy

    Central California Connections Academy

  5. Most states vary on the rules of home schooling but for the most part, your mom can't "get someone" to homeschool you, she has to do it herself. All she needs to do is contact the school board and find out the rules for homeschooling in your state. In my state, VA, for instance, all she needs is a high school diploma and she can do it but like I said, all states are different. Good luck with this. I hope it works out for you.

  6. Okay kid, first rule to being a teenage wonder/ homeschooler, you go and look up the word literally before you ever use it in a sentence again. My sympathies about LAUSD but the second thing is you are going to have to take responsibility of your education, none of this "my teachers don't have time for me" business when you have no teacher. You need to start looking at your life from pro-active perspective, if you aren't good at a subject HIT THE BOOKS.

Private tutors are pretty expensive and if your mom doesn't no where to find one, I'll guess you can't afford it (who can though right?). Okay so what my mother did was enroll me in an umbrella school called "Laurel Springs", this kept the police from handing me over to CPS and other than a monthly visit to a counselor, we had complete freedom(I graduated college before I could legally drink) the other thing you need to know is in the state of California education is free for everyone under the age of eighteen so if you what to start taking classes at a jr. college, it's free! so if your really serious about this I would recommend contacting your local home schooling group and talking to an home schooling momma who can help you figure out your options as they are generally very helpful ladies.

Oh and kid, remember what the drunks say "accept what you cannot change and change what you cannot accept." that really helped me get through public school induced post traumatic stress.
