  1. Drink plenty of fluids to lubricate your muscles, when you run don't allow yourself to walk, just slow your pace down to catch your breath. Every week increase the distance you run, so when you do a cross country race it will seem short. Also train with a friend that is willing to push you and you push him, this always helps. Practice passing each other and as soon as your passed, then you increase speed to pass them back, Keep doing this especially in the last mile.

  2. Just talk to yourself, and keep saying your almost there when you reach where your destination is, then you'll take a break, it's all mental, you have to believe in yourself, that it is possible and that you can do it. The feel of accomplishment is greater than any feeling out there. Good Luck, you believe in yourself and push youself.

  3. Cross Country is mental just as much as a physical sport. If you want to walk, don't. It sounds stupid, but it's the easiest way to get better. Just don't stop.

It also helps to pound water. After a workout, I usually drink one regular sized Gatorade. After that, a decent amount of water throughout the day. Not too much though; it'll flush all of your electrolytes out of your system. Eight glasses a day usually does it, but I'll admit I never drink that much. >.>
