How do I get into mining industry in south australia?

I am leaving the defence forces and wishing to join the mining industry in early 2008. I have experience in welding (with a number of cert 4's). What is the best way to go about getting my foot in the door. Any good sites i should visit or numbers to call? I am looking for either work in South Australia or some fly-in/out work from Adelaide. Any help would be useful as I am a bit clueless about the whole thing at the moment!

This is an interesting question because my grandfather just applied for a job to mine in Australia. There is a company established in New York (the name escapes me right now), that interviews for jobs in Australia. I'm sorry i couldn't help you more but perhaps this will narrow down your search somewhat.
