How do I get into songwriting?

I want to write songs, but don't know exactly how to go about doing it the right way. I get inspired all the time, and want to make it into a song. How do I do it? Are there certain steps? Is it something you're just born with?

A song is just like a poem...thats all it is. What's hard is finding the tune or the melody that you want to go with the song. Trust me, I've been writing songs since I was 10 and they aren't always that good. Otherwise songwriting isn't "your thing". Use the inspiration on something else eg. creative arts, writing (apart from songwriting) and etc. etc.

u have to take songwriting not as story writing, but rather

as instrument.

and u get more talented as time goes by

my first songs sucked, but after a while

i actually really like what ive written :

I rap. Everytime I think of something I write it down, at the end of the week  I have so many lyrics I just mix and match to make a song.
