Hi, I'm 13 years old and just finished grade seven. I took an IQ test in grade three but fell a few points short of being gifted (probably because I had just transfered from a French school) , but earlier this year my mother had me tested privately by a professional and I got a score of about 140. My mom sent in an application for the gifted program but we don't know if there is going to be any room since most kids start in grade five and the class is full. I REALLY hate being in the mainstream class because everything is WAY TOO SLOW! we're still learning INTEGERS in math class!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do I do?

PS, this what school was like last year: I'm already taking a whole bunch of extra activities with ABC take off and I bring more challenging work to school with me, but I still feel like an outcast all of the time and the work almost bores me to tears sometimes, even when I have really great teachers because everything is so slow.

  1. If you qualify for the gifted program based on your IQ they pretty much need to let you in. If they argue your mother (or her lawyer if she is so inclined) could send a letter to the principal about how regular ed classes are not meeting your needs but gifted ones will and remind him (if you are in the US - maybe there are similar laws in other countries) of his obligation to provide you and every student with an appropriate education.

  2. talk to someone in the head of the district
