How do I get more gigs as a storyteller?

Finding gigs is the toughest thing about being a storyteller. Is it better or even possible to find an agent, so is it left to the teller to self-promote? What are the successful techniques to promote yourself as an artist?

  1. Websites are always good.

There are some agents that have specialities e.g. Cruise Ship performers so it is worth investigating a few reputable agencies websites and maing some calls.

Most storytellers get work through schools so that is another avenue to persue and also coffee shops - for example Beanscene chain have an acoustic music night and a poetry/story readings night.

Festivals take place all over the world that anyone can perform at as long as they register...for example Edinburgh Fringe Festival is an emalgamation of Arts, Film, Theatre, Music, Comedy and Children's Entertainment.

The best bit of advice anyone ever told me is just to get out there - offer yourself everywhere and anywhere and build up your back log of stuff and soon it'll switch and you'll be getting pursued rather than pursuing

Hope that helps and Good Luck
