How do I get more places in mario cart wii?

I got the game a couple days ago but i want to know how you unlock more race tracks. Also can you tell me how to get more characters

you have to get gold, sliver or bronze on the courses that you got.

To unlock the race tracks you have to get gold in the race tracks that you already have. To unlock characters you have to do a lot of time trials.
