I live in texas and my daughter is very smart. She is also very tall for her age and if she waits anouther year to start pre school she will be towering all of the kids and i don't want her to stand out. I would like her to start school this year. but the state of texas says she has to be 4 by sept 1st. this is for private and public schoools. Does anyone know about any exceptions to this rule. Is there anything i can do.. I graduated when i was 17 and i don't have any problems. My birthday is in October also...

  1. Very interesting ruling.  It sounds like you are looking into preschools that are state/federally funded within a school?  Maybe you can consider sending her to a private child care that incorporates a preschool program.

  2. I have no suggestions, but I have to say that I hear your frustration...that's a ridiculous rule.  Most places in Canada don't do that.

I'm a November baby...you have to just turn the age necessary by the end of that calendar year to enroll...so I graduated high school at 17...I was at the top of my class from preschool all the way to grade 12.  A few months of development at that age does not limit ability.

  3. i know how you feel cuz my sister was 4 when she went kindergarden but they held her back a year cuz she was to young. So wat my mom and i did was putting her into a summer preschool program and help her a lot but i dont think your child is not yet to age to go kindergardern but yah i think your child is ready 4 preschool try it out!! you never know

  4. what about Catholic Schools?

I don't think the state can tell the catholic school what to do-that violates separation of church and state.--

but the public school still may notlet her transerinto kindergarten until she is 5 on September 1st...

  5. Talk to some of the principle of the school to see if they can bend the rules. Why don't you want your daughter to stand out? If you say that you mean you want your daughter to have average grades, an average job, and pretty much an average life, right? You should want your daughter to go above and beyond and do excellent work.

  6. You will have to call your local school district and see if they have a test your daughter can take to see if she can qualify early. Otherwise, the answer is no, you will have to wait. And think of all the growing up and self confidence she will acquire in that year.  Don't push - let her be 3. then let her be 4.  Enjoy her childhood.

  7. Have you tried to see if you are eligible for the local Head Start programs that is located in your home town.

Head Start enroll three years old.

You can go online and type in Texas Head Start and it will give Head Start programs in Texas.

    Good luck
