  1. you need to go to attend a private business driving school or take a traffic class at your high school. upon completion, they will give you a paper saying that you completed the required amount of hours of driver's education. you then do 6 hours of in-car training with a private business driving instructor. after the 6 hours of training, they will give you another paper saying that you completed driver training. you take the two papers to the dmv and they will setup a profile that has your private info, fingerprint, and photo. they test you on random basic traffic rules in the form of a multiple choice test and if you pass, they give you the permit. the whole process costs roughly $450 including driver's education, training, and permit fees (well, in southern california it costs that much).

from there, you are 6 months away from being able to get your actual license.

  2. while i am 17 and i am going through the same thing lol .  While u need to get a hold of the california driver handbook and you get that at the dmv (the book is free).  When u think ur ready to take the test u need to pay money by the way to take the test and the test is given at the dmv of ur choice. And than u take the test and if u pass than u can get ur permit
