Question:

How do I get my DirecTV DVR to record one show while watching another?

Just got DirecTV installed today with the Plus DVR service. The technician told me that I would be able to record two shows at once or record one while watching another. However, I can't seem to do this. When I am recording a show and try to change the channel, it tells me that it will stop recording if I do change it. What do I do?

  1. did you accidentally record the same show twice. click list and go to your recorded shows. see what shows you've started to record. if you have 2 of the same title delete one. that should do it.

see site below for interactive tutorial.

  2. Set the channel to be recorded up in advance and then just watch the channel you wish to watch live. The DVR has two tuners and does enable you to do what the tech told you. I can do it on mine but occasionally get the message you cite and now believe it's because I tried to change the channel I was recording.

  3. Did the installer run 2 lines to your DVR?  You must have a line run to each tuner in order to watch one and record another.  If both are connected trace them back to the splitter and make sure you have a good connection there.

If everything is connected correctly then reset your receiver by pushing the little button by your card slot.  I had this same problem once with 2 lines installed and rebooting the receiver worked.
