How do I get my PS3 online?

i know you are supposed to plug the ethernet chord into the back but i have to set mine up manually and enter in my I.P address into it? can anybopdy help?

Go to the far right on your media crossbar into settings.  Now scroll down to network.  By going through the automatic setup process it will ask you if you want to use a static IP or a dynamic one.  Use static, and enter your IP.  It should be fairly automatic from there.
