My baby mouse (Dhiren) is 3 weeks old. He no longer wants his milk, but I cant get him to drink his water. He is now eating solids. I give him blueberry's, and other fruits to try and get some fluids into him. Even though I know it isn't much it's something. I have a water bottle and a lid for water. How can I get him to drink water? He will drink pedealite. Should I have him drink that until I can get him to drink water? Thank You

Jamie

  1. look up some vegetables and see which one have the most water content. for example i know lettuce is 96% water so that would be good, the only problem is, is that i don't know if that is safe for them to eat. be sure you know what foods mice can eat before you feed him anything.

  2. You could try putting a drop of water on your fingertip and holding it out to him.

He will learn eventually. You are doing the right thing by feeding him fruits and veggies.

    Good Luck!

  3. Veggies and fruits will actually mess with his digestion and potentially dehydrate him worse.  He may not be that thirsty.  But one of the best ways to get some water into him is cooked brown rice.  Rice is my miracle food for mice in any kind of distress, because it corrects digestive problems in either direction (too runny or blocked up) and has plenty of water in it when cooked.  You can serve it warm in the winter, which they love, and it's soft and easy to eat if the mouse is a bit weak.  You can add a bit of salt and a bit of sugar if the electrolytes are a problem, even mix in some pedialyte.

Keep offering the water in the bottle, it should be available, and the rice may actually make him thirsty and more interested in the water.

    Good luck!
