He's 6 weeks old and has been staying up during the day with about three hour and a half long naps and we go to bed somewhere between 9 and 10 every night but he still wakes up atleast every three hours to eat and lately it's been even more frequent than that, sometimes every hour and a half. What can I do?

  1. There is nothing you can do.  He's only 6 weeks old and babies (usually) will begin sleeping though the night at 3 months.  He is just a baby and that is what they do!

You can try making his day naps shorter by waking him up for a change or feeding or something, but that doesn't always work.

Good luck and just hang in there, you'll make it!

  2. sounds like his days and noghts are messed up.  trying keeping him up more threw thr day and lesser on the naps.  give him warm bath feed him good and burp him and see if this helps.

  3. Feed him before you go to bed.  Also, try to keep him awake until at least 10...that way,  he will sleep longer into the night.   You may try the following:

    *9:30pm  Bath

    *10pm   Bottle, then bed.

And, if you swaddle him before you put him down to bed, chances are, he will sleep longer.  Sometimes, babies startle themselves awake.

He may not wake up until 3 or 4am.  When he wakes up, feed him, then put him back to bed.  You may get another 3-4 hours after that.

I wish you the best of luck!  :-)

  4. Hi,

I think the most important thing to start with is to get your baby into a good sleep routine.  I had massive problems with getting my 4 month old son to sleep.  He would just lie awake and cry for hours, then when he finally went to sleep he would wake every hour or two hours through the night and cry again!  Talk about pulling our hair out .... we were absolutely desperate for sleep!

It was a baby sleep audio program recommended by a friend that finally saved us. We followed the advice and began by creating a baby sleep routine which included bathtime, dimming of the lights, putting James into his crib, final nappy change and then lullabies. We also made recommended changes to his naps during the day and used some of the other recommended techniques. Within two weeks he was sleeping through the night most nights with just the odd night where he would just wake once!

Definitely start by creating a good baby sleep routine though and you could find that solves most of your baby sleep problems.

    Good luck!

  5. he might not be ready to go a long stretch without food.  Try increasing the oz in the last bottle before bed.  Try a bath at around 9 with lavender wash and lotion, then bottle, and in bed by 10.  worked for me.  But mine didn't sleep thru the night until recently and he's 3 months old.

  6. Well, it is to be expected that he wake to eat.  Some things you might try are swaddling and making sure he gets plenty of milk during the daytime.

  7. my baby girl is 3 weeks old, and she was waking up like 3 times at night, but than i tried to feed her heavier before bed( im putting her to sleep at 9.30 pm or 10pm, but im keeping her up from 8pm) . so if you are breast feeding, pump the milk and give her bottle before going to bed. i give her 4 oz.

And another thing. When i was discharged from the hospital they said i can give her a bath every 4 days, but my mother told me i can give her a bath every day before bed and she will sleep better, so i tried that 2 days ago, and she woke up only once to eat, the rest she was sleeping! so from now on, im giving her a bath every night! :)

So try to feed her heavier and giving her a bath every night.

Good luck, i hope that helps!

  8. BE  A GUD MOTHER, AND FEED HIM MORE FREQUENTLY. THEN ADD SEMISOLID FOOD AT 13WEEK, SEMISOLID FOOD GIVES MORE SLEEP DR HARJIT

  9. This is the age they go through a growth spurt so he will eat more often.  You can't do anything but wait until this passes.  It normally slows down after about 2 to 3 weeks.  You will also notice this again around 2.5 to 3 months.
