How do I get my camcorder's video to my macbook (Imovie)?

I have a sony Handycam Vision CCD-TRV608 NTSC. It has Hi8 film. I have the USB cable, and I have hooked it up to the macbook, but the computer wont import from it. I have tried to go to file and import by clicking on "Import from camera" but it still wont work. Please help!

  1. Hi8 is an analog format. To get the video from that camcorder into your Mac, you need an "Analog/Digital bridge".

    Since iMovie (or FinalCut) will not recognize video coming into through the USB port, you need to connect the camcorder to the A/D bridge using the AV cables that came with the camcorder - then connect the A/D bridge to your Mac's firewire port with a Firewire cable.

    The USB connection is used ONLY for transferring stills from the memory card.
