How do I get my car back? Person won't return car or make payments.?

I stupidly put a car in my name for someone else, instead of co-signing the loan. This way I thought I could protect myself because they would make payments directly to me. They put down 10 K and made payments for about a year and then stopped. It was excuse after excuse and now after 4 more years, I've paid off car but still no money or car. I told the person that I wanted the car back and they agreed but lo and behold, no car. I'm in Texas and the car is in Louisiana, which is a non assist state, so I can't use one of those personal property repossesion services. I don't know what else to do.

Report your car stolen to the police. You own it, they borrowed it, they didn't return it when you asked...stolen.

You might want to let the guy know that you're notifying the authorities and the FBI will probably get involved since more than one state is involved. That should get him to think twice about keeping it any longer.
