How do I get my card reader to read my camera memory card?

The card reader was my dads and it worked fine for him on his computer but I can't seem to get my camera card to work properly on it. Do I need to download something to help me?

I have a Pocket Reader multi-slot 6-1 card reader and I have a sony cybershot camera. My dad told me that the card reader was a sony as well but I don't see a brand name/make on it anywhere.

There are a couple of possibilities.  

It could be something as simple as a bad USB cable or USB port, in which case, using a different cable or port would solve your problem.  

Another possibility is that you need a driver for the pocket reader.  If so, your dad should probably have an installation CD that came with it.  If he doesn't, check the manufacturer's website to download a driver for it.
