How do I get my cat in the house with new puppy??

Question

I have three cats and bought home a boxer puppy around eight weeks ago. Two of my cats were apprehensive but are coming inside the house but my third cat has been living outside for as long as the puppy arrived. I have tried tempting him with food. Have put the puppy in another room and left front door open. There are loads of places in my house for the cat to get away from the puppy but nothing is working. I even went on holiday and took the dog and had a friend move in for the week, the cat still never came past the back gate. What else can I do???????
