How do I get my cat to stop pushing water out of her pet fountain?

I bought a water fountain for my cats. One keeps digging water out of the fountain and soaking the floor. My floor is a pond, morning and night. I can't yell at her, because I don't want her to stop drinking water, but the mess is insane. It's going to kill my linoleum. How can I get her to stop playing in the fountain? Or do I just get used to it?

  1. you have a cat who loves to play with water.....interesting.....welll i think you should get her a bowl instead of using the fountain.....one of my cats would start drinkin from the fountain and the minute it would glurp he would run away.....maybe your cat is trying to get the glurping noise.......good luck!!

  2. no kidding my cat does the same thing it's either they think it's fun or i read that some cat's do this to keep they're whiskers from touching the water

  3. Hmm this might work. When your cat goes to the fountain supervise him/her for a few minutes to make sure he doesn't splash water. When he splashes water, do a quick sudden verbal noise like shhh/snap your fingers. As soon as she/he drinks the water, reward her with a treat. I suggest you look up Caesar Milan's techniques from Google. It might take several weeks before you notice improvement.
