Question:

How do I get my cats fur off of black clothes?

I know the obvious answer is to keep them away from the clothes. My kids like black clothes & they love our cats & cuddle with them. So my question is more about getting rid of the hair that is there rather than preventing it. Any experienced cat lovers advice out there???

  1. i have 13 cats- AARGHH!

use a lint remover roller brush, it works wonders.  or a regular packing tape if you're cheap. :)

  2. Argh! Cat hair. Story of my life.

We've got a white and ginger cat and another tortoiseshell. Their hair is everywhere!

Try getting a bit of stick tape, holding the ends and dabbing it over the clothes. It picks up most of the fur that is left on my black jeans. So it's likely it will work for you.

    Good luck!

  3. As someone indicated, you can buy a sticky roller that you roll over the clothes to get the fur off.  Costco sells them in a bulk pack that's about as cheap as you can go.

Or, you can take whatever kind of tape you have, and roll it around your hand, sticky side out, to form a sort of "mitten" over your hand, and use that.  (If you have access to a stationary cabinet at work where they keep rolls of masking tape or scotch tape, remember that stealing company supplies for personal use is frowned upon. ;-))  )

....Or, in a pinch, like if you run out of the house in a big hurry without de-furring yourself with the tape, you can moisten your hand (water from any source; in a pinch, spit will work) and use your moist hand to rub the clinging fur off.  Moist hand will work just fine on most fabrics to get rid of the worst of the fur, and you always have your hands with you!

  4. Tape is good, also those rollers work pretty well.

If you don't want to keep buying refills or more tape though, they do make lint brushes. They have them at drugstores or Target/Walmart in the laundry/home section. Here is a link so you can see what it looks like- every one I've bought looked like this so maybe this brand is most popular?

In my experience the brushes work best to get rid of lint/fur and last for a long time:)

  5. Do you GROOM your cat?  The more hair you get off by grooming the cat the less hair will end up on your clothing.  If this is a shorthaired cat use a slicker brush or Zoom Groom and fully brush the cat at least once a week.  If this is a longhaired cat use a comb - not a brush.  Brushes do little to remove the dead hairs of the undercoat and can pull out and break top coat hairs.  A steel-toothed comb with gently remove the loose, dead hairs and leave the topcoat intact.

Also consider what you're feeding your cat.  The better the quality of food, the healthier the coat, and the less it will shed.  If you're feeding it cheap dry grocery store food that's made mostly of corn switch to a meat-based food with little to no grain.  Also include canned food in your cat's diet.  Salmon oil can be found at most pet stores.  It's rich in Omega 3 and Omega 5 fatty acids and is good for the coat and all around good health.

  6. there are those pet hair remover rollers that are sticky or you can use masking tape or packing tape.
