I have a chinchilla, and I really want to play with it, but everytime i get near it it runs away. I can't get it out of it's cage. Anyone know how?

  1. well you must gain their trust. with many chins this may take  a while. start out just hanging out in the same room talk to them give them treats (but only in their cage - if they get out they will want to return to their source of food). now keep in mind that chins have very independent personalities they may come to you and sit on your lap for a second or two and off they go to yet another adventure around the room. They will never play with you the way dogs or even cats will.

  2. It just depends on the temperment of the chin. You need to let it out let it run around and if he stops on your lap pet him. He needs to be comfortable with you before he will let you get near him. But as far as play with you? Hes a chinchilla what are you trying ta get him to do? roll over and play dead? fetch you the newspaper? play catch? its not gonna happen- if thats what youre waiting on dont hold your breath. I have two chins and they play with each other not with me. My suggestion is go by a dog.
