How do I get my desk top to connect to the internet?

My computer had viruses and I got it cleaned out and then I had issues connecting it to the internet I had qwest before and they had me go into the control panel and connections and then they described it as pinging off a server? So now I am with Cox and having the same issue and told them what was done to get it to work with Qwest but they don't seem as smart? Just seeing what others recommend?

They may have deleted your internet connection drivers when you got it cleaned.Go to device manager and see if there is a yellow ? beside network adapter or modem if you use dial-up.If there is,use your model number,go to the manufacturers website,go to support and you should be able to find it there.Look for ethernet or NIC drivers for dsl or cable,and modem for dial-up.
