How do I get my digital optical surround to work?

Question

I Hooked up the wire from my DVD player to my surround and then i try to find a setting on my surround that is for the digital but thereisn'tt anything about it....There'ss a button that says six channel but i don't know how to set it to play the digital sound...

Its an RCA home theatre system model ....RT2380BK
