Question:

How do I get my dog not to be scared of rumblestrips?

I found that my dog rides great in a car except when we go over a rumblestrip when a lane shifts due to road construction. What happens is she tries to get in the front seat, with varying degrees of success. Since one time she got all the way in the front seat and then tried to get in my lap while I was driving down the freeway, I'm getting a harness to tether her down for the next trip since the road construction is still going on. But even being tethered, she'll still pulls and I can't stop in the middle of the road to calm her down. How do I teach her it is no big deal? I don't own a car (just rent one when I go on a road trip out of state), so I can't practice anywhere, and on a smooth road she is great.

  1. You can't really teach her, if you don't have a car to practice on. You might try crating her when in a car. This will ensure that she won't be able to get in to your lap.
