How do I get my dog to stop eating clothes?

My dog eats towels, clothes, blankets, basically anything cloth. Why does she do it & how do I get her to stop? I'm afraid she'll get bound-up & need surgery.

Don't leave them where she can get to it.  and then, get her some toy, don't EVER give her old clothing or socks as toy, because she will associate every pieces of clothing as her toy.  

If she is a puppy, she will eventually grow out of it with some help.

I recommend keeping all things cloth up high enough for her to not be able to reach- closet doors closed, towels on racks, etc,

and buy her a bunch of rawhide bones.

My dog chews on fabric but only if she doesnt have any rawhides, i think it is because the fabric is kind of heavy duty and has resistance when they chew.

* also*  if she gets stuff out of the laundry hamper- they sell one's that have a flip open and close lid.

Don't give her no old clothes to chew on or towel or pillows.Just give her toys to chew on.If she is puppy don't worry about it too much.

For starters, provide your dog with a good assortment of appropriate toys.  Keep things put away that you do not want the dog to chew on.  Be persistent in letting your dog know which ones are good and which ones are bad.  One of my dogs was pretty stubborn about going for shoes so I purchased a dog training collar.  (shock collar) It has worked wonders.  Don't over do it but when you catch the dog doing something wrong, give him a correction with the collar and also a verbal correction.  After a couple of times he should understand.  I cannot stress enough not to over do it with the collar.  I've had friends tell me the collar is cruel but before I placed it on my do, I did try it on myself.  It does not hurt but it sure gets your attention.  Good luck.

Try some Bitter Apple spray.   Spray down something she's likely to go after and leave it where she can get it.   After a few times she'll start to associate the bad taste with the clothing/towels and stop eating it.  

Also if she's chewing these things when home alone, maybe you need to restrict from parts of the house where she's finding things to chew.  Also keeping as much as you can out of her reach.. my dog has a thing for dirty laundry, so I just keep the basket up out of his reach.

She is chewing on them because she is bored and they smell of you.  You need to exercise her more....give her a job.  Time spent in the backyard by herself is not exercise, it is potty time.  Walk her, go jogging with her, play ball with her, or frisbee.  And keep your clothing and towels picked up and stored properly in a laundry hamper with a lid.  If there are articles of clothing available for her to chew, this is your fault, not hers.  Remove the ability to do this and you will go a long way to protecting your dog,

there is a spray you can buy that you spray on clothing and it leaves a taste that the animals despise and after a while they will think all fabric tastes like that, ask your vet about it.

Keep the clothes picked up and out of reach for starters. Whenever you catch her chewing on something redirect her to a toy and praise her for playing with it instead of the clothing.
