I have a big backyard, which i take him out to play in, and when its time to go in I stand by the gate and call him, he comes when my dad calls but not for me . I know he can hear me (unless he has a hearing problem) cuz they can hear me in my house , but he just dosen't respond. finally today I went a got him and spoke to him firmly and told him this was wrong then i chained him when we got inside for like a time out .. Is this the wrong way? dose he understand ? I don't think being very mean, he comes when I call in the house, and other times.. What should I do? Sometimes in other cases too , he just decides hes not going to listen, what is his issue? what do i need to do ?

  1. LOL he has you trained beautifully doesn't he? Stop waiting for him to come to you, silly! Call him, and walk away. Dogs will automatically follow just because A) they want to be with you and B) they're naturally chasers. But you standing in the yard "here doggie doggie" he thinks it's hilarious. Watch what your dad does. If the dog doesn't come, does he wait for it and continue to call it? My guess is no, he goes inside. The dog will figure out that you're not gonna wait around for him and he better get inside while the door's still open. Never mind the chain, just leaving him behind will be message enough.Come back and get him in 5 minutes.

  2. Unfortunately, dogs do not have a great perception of time and understanding. Putting them in time out doesn't register as a 'time out' for your pet. To them, doing something one minute ago doesn't mean they are thinking about it now, so "punishing" them doesn't really work.

    Here's something that might help:

Go to the store and buy a regular sports whistle. This will be his new "name". Sometimes, when dogs have other things on their mind, they won't listen to you even if you are shouting their name. Then get yourself either a hot dog, or training reward niblets and put them in your pocket. Take your dog outside, with a leash. Blow the whistle and as soon as he looks at it, praise him and give him a treat. Keep doing this. He will soon realize that whistle=food. Take him off of the leash. Let him wander about five feet out, blow the whistle again. By now, he should come because he expects food. Keep doing this, each time letting hime get further and further away. Eventually he should come everytime you call his 'name' (whistle blow). It does take time, but pretty soon you won't need the training treats, just praise. Good luck!

  3. next time you call him wave a treat and then give him the treat when he comes to you, keep doing this a number of times and then he'll do it without the treat.

  4. You do need to show him you're the leader of the pack but you don't have to chain him up to do this. Try walking him and if he tries to get ahead of you, stop and say no as you yank on his chain. Do this firmly and walking him daily tells him your the leader, then he'll respect you as that.

  5. well it is the wrong thing for chaining him up beacuse maybe your dad trains him in a way that you should try or do wat they do in the sims get a treat for him everytime he dose somthing right

  6. maybe be more exciting! Or get a dog wostle. Or maybe even treats!

  7. Your dog does not understand English, he understands dominance.

Your dog "lives in the now" so chaining him up for a "time out" is nuts.  He's not a child, doesn't speak your language, and is not capable of remembering anything that happened.  Dogs don't remember.  So when you brought him in and chained him up, he only knows he got chained up after coming in doors.

You need to work on your dominance of this animal, which you CANNOT achieve by brutality or loud voice.  Right now he sees you as his equal, you must make him know that you are the boss.  The only way to do that is to work with him.  This is part of training an animal.

  8. training him and dont always give him the reward. If he learns that you are eager to give the award, he'll do it just for the treat and not out of habit.

  9. You need to make yourself more exciting than anything that is in the environment. It doesn't happen overnight, but you begin to reinforce him for responding to you. If you are the keeper of all the goodies; treats, toys, etc., you will become "It" for him.

I would lure him with a favorite treat to get the ball going. If he is toy motivated, get out his favorite toy

  10. Be gentle the dog will come around.

  11. Take treats out there and like say come here! and wave it in the air where he can see.
