Question:

How do I get my foot in the door in Real Estate?

Hi,

I've just completed a Diploma for Property (Real Estate) and one for Business Management and want to become a Property Manager...

Thing is, most job ads online ask for a few years experience before they'll consider you and it's feels like I'm stuck in a Catch-22.

Anyone here in (or know anyone in) Real Estate? If so, how did you start out/get your foot in the door?

  1. Kick the door really hard.

  2. If you want to get into property management you basically want any job in a real estate agency.  For example our receptionist has just become a Property Manager Assistant... our leasing staff member is moving into sales.  You don't have to start off in property management!

To "get your foot in the door" as you say you need to aim for something attainable without the experience.  Make sure you have your certificate of registration (NSW) and all qualifications necessary to get a real estate related job at the end of the day.

I started as a receptionist/junior, then a property assistant, then a property manager and now a senior property manager.  It takes baby steps!

Good luck and go for gold!

  3. Be persistant.... go into all the real estate agents in your area and give them a resume. BUT keep going back..... REMEMBER real estate agents are considered to be pushy, so BE PUSHY to get what you want!

AND, apply for ANY job, just to get you in, then work your way up!

    Good Luck
