Question:

How do I get my husband to let me take down the pool?

I haven't been in my pool in two weeks. There was algae growing on the liner and I got rid of most of it. Now I'm just grossed out. For some reason my husband wants me to keep the pool up. I do all of the maintainence and chemicals, cutting the grass around the sides, etc. It's a time consuming task and I just don't have time for it anymore since we don't even use the pool. He claims he'll get to use it one of these days after work and says we should keep it up until October. I told him it's been 70 degrees out for the past month and I'm not swimming in weather like that.

If you're wondering why I say "take down the pool" it's because it's an easy set pool with the metal poles supporting it. I don't want it to freeze (October weather gets cold) and I don't want it up all fall either because the grass needs to be replanted while it's still warm out.

Without upsetting him, how can I get him to agree to let me take down my pool? I'm about ready to drain it today, but he hasn't been so keen on the idea. It's costing an extra $20 a month in electric to keep it up. It'll take a week to let it dry out, wash it out and put it away. I'm not sure if he wants to have a "final pool day" where he swims *like Labor day* and closes the pool the same day. I can't wait another 2 weeks of maintaining a pool that no one swims in!

What do you think?

  1. It's called an 'accidental tear' in the lining that causes a slow leak.....get it?

Take a broomstick, wrap a sharp kitchen knife at one end and voila!

You have a pool killing weapon of mass destruction that can be taken apart after it's done the deed.....no one will know hehehe.....

If you can make the tear by the seam or at the bottom.

Too bad there aren't any waterfowl in your area...we had neighbors with a pool (in a lake community no less) and a pair of mallard ducks were constantly mistaking the pool for a swimming pond......duck p**p would be a great deterrent lol.....

or just let it 'go' because you haven't had time to maintain it or the grounds around it...let him, the lazy thing...good luck.

  2. You need your husband's permission to take down the pool?  Seriously?  If I were the one doing all the maintainence with the pool...which includes adding the chemicals to the water, cutting the grass around the sides and etc....I would take down the pool when I was good and ready...and especially since nobody is even using the d**n thing!

  3. Just do it.

If he objects tell him OK but you can maintain it and clean it seeing as you 'might' want to swim in it....then let him deal with it!!

  4. Since you don't use it anymore and don't want to tell him he is going to have to do the upkeep on it.  Just tell him you don't have time to maintain it anymore.  If he gets upset he will get over it.  If he is planning on using it Labor Day he will have to maintain if you don't.

  5. While he is at work, just drain it. say it must have gotten a leak.  Then he has no reason to take it down.  no one wants to spend the extra time and money to fill it up again.  That's what my parents did with our pool.

  6. Plan a date.

Make up a family poster for your "Last Dip Party".

Invite the kids, their friends (if you are that energetic) buy some hot dogs and potato salad and that will be your labor day party.

Have it tomorrow if you want!

Then, come Monday morning drain that pool!

Scrub it up, let it dry it will take at least a week to do that!

We DIDN'T take down ours until September and it was destroyed. The kids start school, if you live in the north the wind starts kicking leaves and debris into it, then it gets chilly, or rainy... and it either gets too disgusting to clean or it gets too cold or wet to clean and put away properly.

If that happens; then your investment is shot.

We threw our pool away in the spring. The idea of cleaning it after the leaves got in there and started the algea nonsense all over was too vial.

Good Luck and have fun at your final dip pool party!!!!

  7. It's just two weeks.  It's not like this consumes your every waking moment.

Talk with him...say...how about we keep it up until after Labor Day, but then it needs to come down so we can get the grass in.
