Question:

How do I get my husband to let us have a dog?

Soooo, my husband said if I found a dog that was house broken, adult, good with kids, and not a big shedder...we could have one. I bet he didn't think I would find it, but I DID! Nowww, he is backing out. We have a 6 month old and a 3 1/2 year old. This dog is so small and cute! It's a PeekaPoo Poodle mixed with a Peekanese. Yes, I know that a PeekaPoo is already a mix of the poodle and peekanese, but a PeekaPoo mated with a Peakanese...making this pup.

Does anyone know if this is a good dog to have around children? They said she doesn't shed much....I'm so disappointed. How do I convince him to let us have this dog???

  1. I'm sure the children will love a cute dog like this.

A PeekaPeekaPoo almost sounds like a Pokemon.

It would be both cute enough, smart enough and very fun to own. But in as much as the shedding issue,

I'm sure it would shed more than an average dog.

It doesn't shed much (they said) - probably compared to a purebred Pekingese and while technically they were trying to be honest, they were more than likely trying MORE to just unload a dog on you. Just seriously promise your husband that you personally will take the extra time cleaning the house and grooming the dog to make sure the shedding doesn't become a problem.

Dogs are man's best friend - all guys have a soft spot for dogs. So, I'm sure he'll be won over by your new dog too sooner or later. (as long as shedding hair doesn't cause a major electrical appliance to break/overheat and nobody develops an allergy to the dog.) Guys really hate broken gadgets (PC's, DVR's, DVD Players, Satellite Receivers, Plasma TV's, etc) and doctor bills.

  2. who cares what your husband says just get the dog its what i done with my mum and she didnt do anyhting cause she knew she cldnt as it is my dog

  3. Yup...the other poster was correct.  Small dogs and toddlers generally do not mix well together.  My sis in law tried this, and now the yorkie is at grandmom's.

They get freaked easily...which is understandable!  They are chased, squeezed, flopped on...

I am not too familiar with the breed, so do some research.  If he is wanting an adult dog, you must make sure that the dog has been socialized with young children and does well with them prior to introducing one.

Don't trust the salespersons take on it.  Do the research and verify for yourself!  The last thing you want is to adopt a dog and have to take it away from your kids because it's not a good fit.  Better to do the research first!

    Good luck~

  4. Small dogs usually aren't good around small children. You may want to wait a few more years before getting a dog. It's not really fair for you to keep begging your husband for a dog if he is uncomfortable getting one. Give it time and he will change his mind. Trust me, my mom went through this exact same problem with my dad.

  5. I hope this link helps.

  6. 1. Pekingese shed. This dog is 3/4 Pekingese. So what "she" said was quite possibly a sales pitch with no basis in fact.

    2. Small dogs and toddlers don't go well together. Child learning to walk steps on dog, breaks a leg...child overzealously squeezes little dog in a hug, dog bites, etc.

My hackles come up at the thought of being told I "can't" do something by my partner, but I'm kind of with your husband on this one. Sorry.

  7. just  get the dog. train the dog well and show your husband how much fun he/she is to have around. also try to let the dog hang out around the kids so it gets used to them and will be good with them.
