How do I get my itunes that were purchased onto my new computer?

I had to reformat and set my computer back to original vista settings. I have done a back up to a portable hard drive and thought it included my itunes, but I don't see them in there. However, when I go to my itunes account it has all my songs that I purchased listed. How do I copy them to my library.
