Question:

How do I get my laptop to "accept" iTunes songs from my external hard drive?

Here is the deal. I'm using an iBook with just a few tunes on it (100). What I want to do is have my iTunes (on the iBook) "accept" all the 4000 songs on the external hard drive - and I don't care if the 100 iBook tunes get erased.

I've used the iTunes preferences to change/redirect the location of the iTunes library but my laptop iTunes will not access the 4000 tunes; it still keeps the original 100. What can I do so I can play all the songs on the external hd? THANK YOU!

  1. It may seem tough but the answer is pretty simple.

about a month ago, i had the same problem when i got a new laptop and my music was on an external hard drive. i plugged in the hard drive and simply dragged and dropped from the hard drive to my desktop, it will take a while with 4000 songs, then u just select one and open with itunes. u will probably need to authorize the computer so make sure u have an apple ID and password.

    good luck

  2. First, make sure iTunes is NOT set to COPY all your music to your library. You just want to leave them where they are, right? Then, simply drag the hard drive onto the iTunes window. It will add every audio file it finds on there.
