My mom is allergic to dogs, but I would really like a Yorkie. They are hypoallergenic, and I'll take care of it! How do I convince her?

  1. Mom needs to spend time with that breed of dog to determine if she can stand being around it. No dog is truly "hypoallergenic" - anyone with allergies can have a reaction to any breed of dog, PERIOD. If mom doesn't want to chance it, her health comes first. No ifs, ands, or buts about it.

Not to mention, she would be the one paying for that dog and it's care. Unless you have a well paying part time job? Mom already pays for the home, car(s), insurance for both, utilities, groceries, clothing, taxes, not to mention anything you or she NEED. A dog is not one of those needs, sorry to say, especially with rising prices.

What do you do around the house now to show her that you can be responsible? Not much, i'm assuming, if you have to "convince" her that you can be.....

So try picking up chores around the house. Get a job. If you're too young then do odds and ends for neighbors to get paid. Have her find a breeder and go visit the dog(s) and litter they may have. Let her talk to her doctor about it. But if she says no, then back off and accept that. Accepting her decision is a BIG way to show your maturity,

  2. Do research online, see what steps you can take to keep allergies down such as frequent baths, keeping the dog off the furniture, etc. You'll need some evidence that they're hypo-allergenic, so a visit to a breeder wouldn't hurt. And please don't get it from a pet store, they get the from puppy mills and they're usually overpriced anyway.

Another good idea would be to volunteer at a shelter, that will show mom that you're ready and willing to put up with the icky aspects of dog ownership since they'll have you cleaning cages and walking dogs and such. Additionally, your mom can take meds for her allergies. I was allergic to my dog at first but once I got used to her I was fine. Sometimes in the mornings she still makes me itch and sneeze because that's when I'm the most sensitive but I just pop a Benadryl and I'm fine.

So just do your research, show your mom that you know what your talking about and that you're wiling to take on all the responsibility. Good luck!

  3. tell her its a cat :) ORR...you can not bug her at all bc we both no shell end up taking it for a walk and cleaning up after it SO DONT LIE TO HER OK JUST TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF  jeez hahah im kiddin...but seriously...says its a bird

  4. research everything about dogs to really show her i know how to take care of a dog worked for me

  5. have an booklet about taking care of dogs, master it and prove it to your mom that u can handle everything... also attend a seminar regarding house pet management.

  6. Show her that you are responsible and mature enough and show her how much you have researched Yorkies and are knowledgeable about dog training and care

  7. Ask the person with the dog if you can bring the dog home with you for a few hours and to see what happens. With that said why would you risk making the only person in the world who will love you forever suffer. You know you won't take care of it. We convince ourselves of these things when we want something. A dog is a 14 year commitment and Vet bills are more than people bills! At least $100 to walk through the door. Do you have a $100 every 3 months ?

  8. the only way you can convince anyone of anything really is to develop your character, build a reputation.  you can't talk her into it with words and promises.  take care of extra chores and responsibilities at home, help your mom, be cheerful and respectful, etc.  and don't think you can just improve your ways for a couple of weeks and get upset if she doesn't recognize your efforts.  you have to show her you can handle the responsibility for several years.

    and speaking of years,

the responsibilities of having a dog lasts ten, twenty years.  where are you going to be in that time?  if you're planning on moving out soon you'd have a hard time finding a place that will take dogs, especially if you're going to be working all the time or going to college.  your mom might be thinking she'll get stuck with the dog after you move away.

  9. you don't. if mom doesn't want a dog she doesn't have to get a dog. Secondly how do you even know she won't react to the yorkie? Even so called low shed and low dander dogs can trigger allergic reactions in people with allergies.

How about you stop thinking about what YOU want and start thinking about what is best for your mother and oh I don't know RESPECTING what she says as an adults and your parent and thus the rule maker in the house.

  10. ugh the ultimate quest, yes i am working on this to but differently, i want an irish setter and neither of my parents are allergic. remember she may be thinking about the vet bills too.- i know you dont want to hear this cause i asked this question a million of times and this wwad my answer and it was right. also look up this breed and learn more about it and every once and a while tell some of these good facts about them. hope i helped!!

  11. Show your Mom you are responsible by taking more responsibility at home, like chores. Be helpful and nice to her as much as you can.

If you can show her that you can handle more responsibility, she will see that she can depend on you to take care of a dog.

  12. convince her you are responsible and mature.

  13. Honestly, it is her house and her rules are what you have to live by. You have plenty of time when you are older to have as many dogs as you wish. Also, she may be concerned that when you move that the dog will be hers and no longer yours. Taking care of it is only part of what owning a dog is. You have to exercise it, you have to play with it, you have to socialize it and you have to pay the vet bills. If you can't do that than you should wait until you can, because a dog will love you whether you get it now or in a couple of years.

  14. You should show her that you are responsible first. Then you should act like a nerd and make projects and diagrams about Yorkie. You should also show her that you care about her and this dog.

  15. Buy her some allergy medicine (the kind without a prescription obviously)... show her it works, then whine about the dog.

Either that or take a temper tantrum... that usally does the trick!

  16. just get it, try to hide it, and when she discover, just say you love it very much.

  17. No dog is hypoallergenic and there is more to looking after a dog than just taking care of it. What about vet bills and necessities?

If a parent doesn't want a dog, you can't have one. A dog is a huge responsibilityand it's reasons like children persuading their parents to get a puppy/dog that put dogs in shelters.
