  1. I have had 3 hamsters and one was really wild.

I had to let her be for a couple of days to get used to her cage and the food and peoples voices.

Do not try and pick her up right away, she will probably bite you. just let her sniff your hand, but they like to try and nibble on ur hand to get the smell. One of our hamsters would try and do this all the time lol but she knew we didnt like it so once she almost nibbled my moms finger but she said "no!!" and she didnt..it was funny....

anyway just let her sniff u if u want, and hand feed her some of her food... also coaxing her into a ball (the ones they make for hamsters to roll around in) and they love going around the house in those, make sure u put tape on the top to close the hole because they hit some walls sometimes and the lid can easil come open and wa la they are gone. this happend to us more than twice!! it takes some time to find the hammys but they end up coming to u after u call their name or leave out some nice veggis!!

  2. Talk to her and pay a lot of attention to her, she will warm up to you eventually.

  3. Well when I first got my hamster. I let her settle in for a few days. I began to give her treats like (cheese puffs, watermelon, peanuts, etc.) Then she began to trust me. When you go to hold her make sure she is awake. If you startle the hammie it will bite. Once you are able to hold it it's important for you to do this everyday. Hope this helps! I have five hammies and have dealt with hammie problems. If u want you can add me.

  4. my friends said to leave it alone for 1 week. i just keep stroking it.

  5. Keep handling it but give it a few days to settle in. Give it a treat when it goes back into its cage so it knows being handled is positive and it should enjoy it. Mine always used to bite so i used gloves to handle it so it got used to my smell but didn't hurt when it bit me. Good luck!

  6. I have attached the guide to training / taming hamsters. Hope it is of help to you too.

    Guide to taming hamsters -

Taming your hamster can be a long process, don't expect your hamster to suddenly like be handled over night. It can take weeks or even months depending on the hamster. Here the the steps to handling a hamster -

STEP 1 - When you first get your hamster leave it alone for the first 2 - 3 days to let it get used to it's new cage and surroundings. If you pick him up on the first day itself, he will definitely bite you since you are a stranger to him.

STEP 2 - Once the hammy seems comfortable in his new cage, start talking to him softly and hang around his cage enough for him to get used to your voice and smell. After this time feed your hamster some treats from your hand so he get used to seeing your hand. This might take a few days to happen but be patient. If you feel that the hamster still bites you, you can use gloves initially.

PRECAUTION - always interact with the hamster only when he is active. If you touch him or disturb him when he is sleeping, he can get angry and bite viciously.

STEP 3 - Once your hamster seems confident with taking treats out of your hand you can try to start handling your hamster. Before you handle your hamster make sure you have washed your hands well. Hamsters have a strong sense of smell. If they smell something on your hand they may mistake it for food and decide to bite!

Get a cup or something similar and place it into the hamster's cage. He should come to investigate and crawl inside. Take the hamster and cup out of the cage and let him walk out onto your hand. While you do this make sure you're sat down or sat close to the floor incase your hamster decides to jump. Let him walk from hand to hand. Be careful you don't grab or wrap your hands around your hamster until he is fully tame as this may scare him and he will jump out of your hand.

STEP 4 - Once your hamster is more confident with you, you can start to pick up your hamster straight from it's cage. Just make sure your hamster is aware that you are there, if not you may suddenly scare the hamster and it may turn around and bite you.

Best way to hold hamsters is to make them climb into one hand and cupping the other hand softly over the body so that his head pokes out from the gap between your two hands. Remember, do not apply any pressure on his body, he will get scared and snap at you.

  7. keep handleing it for a long time and pet it gently. also offer some treats like brocolli, apples, etc. after a couple weeks of this, your hamster should be tamed a bit. keep on repeating this until your hamster is tamed

  8. I let my hamster settle for a few days.  Then I said his name a few times for him to get used to my voice.  I let my hamster run around in a big bin.  To get my hamster nice I stroked him and then picked him up with gloves on so he wouldn't bite my hand.  I did this a few times every day.  When he didn't bite the gloves, I held him without gloves and he was great.

  9. Well i jsts got a hamster i found that talking to him and playing with him    also trying to hold him works, or feeding him out of your hand!

  10. just give hr treatd by hand and stroke her every day.

  11. first let it be for the first few days and don't touch it! them give them yummie treats like yoggie brand. then one day when its eating its treat try to pick it up. do it veary slowly and only lift it about an inch or to off the ground. every day lift highter. then when its ok with u picking it up play with it every day for about  1/2 and hour every day
