How do I get my pug to stop eating his own f***s? ?

My 8 year old pug, Doug has always been doing this since we first got him. We've tried many ways to stop it but he won't. He's always hungry too. We feed him enough but he ALWAYS wants food. Anyone know whats the deal? My other pug, Toby never eats his f***s, why does the other?

um dogs do that liek alll the time it's reallllllly tough to make it stop with my dog wed spray mint spray like for ur mouth on the dogs butt..then when it pooped i guess the p**p smelled like mint and it woudnt go near it cuz if u put minty spray on something the dog wont eat it...idk why but they dont it's cool try that maybe?? maybe the dog just needs more food.

What do you feed him?

Dogs generally eat f***s when they are lacking nutrients in their food.

I had this problem with my pug the vet told me that dogs do this who has a lack of protein in their diet. It is best to talk to your vet they may advice you to put him on special food which is higher in nutrients and your puggy will feel less hungry.  Good luck

i dont know why dogs do this but try a high fiber dog food they also make meds for dogs you put in there food to stop this try calling your vet and ask them what to do to stop him......... but i never heard about the pinapple until now does this really work????????

he may have a medical reason, break down and take him to the vet, his diet is wrong and or he has parasites as the dog is trying to make up for the lack of whatever is missing in his feed.

While you are working on trying to solve this problem, you might want to check him to see if he has any worms. You may have done that already but that can be the cause of a voracious appetite.

Pineapple is the correct answer.  It is used as the basis for most coprophagy treatments.

First you should check with your vet about the type of food you are feeding the dog.  It sounds like he is not getting what he needs from the food - hence the constant eating of food and f***s.

As others have said, you can feed the dog some pineapple with his food - there is something in the pineapple that makes the f***s no longer appealing.

IF for some strange reason that does not work (it didn't on my Cairn terrier)...my vet told me to put hot sauce on the f***s.  When the dog gets a taste of the hot sauce he will stop eating the f***s (this was the only thing that worked on my Cairn).

feed him smaller amounts of food at a time so he completely digests what you give him.

Put pineapple in the food and when it comes out the other end the dog doesn't like it.
