I've written a couple short stories and I want to share them with a local magazine. Do I just contact them and send it in, or how does that work? Thanks=)

  1. Send the editor an email with examples of your best work attached. Make sure your introduction in flawless, because if you make a spelling or grammatical error, the editor will think you're sloppy and will not bother reading your stories. Follow up the email with a phone call two or three days later. If you don't get a response, call a few days after that. Don't be hurt if you're rejected, especially if you're asking to be paid. Money is very tight in the magazine industry.

If you don't have any luck with the local magazine, you could submit your stories elsewhere. Go to your local library and ask for "Writers' Market," which is a large list of publishers that comes out annually in book form. The publications are listed by topic, and each listing includes instructions on how to submit your articles. Good luck.
