How do I get my small dog to stop biting?

She's a little dog but her teeth are sharp I was wondering if there were any ideas as how to get her to stop biting. It's not done maliciously but she does it when she wants your attention or when she wants to play.

  1. The moment your dog puts her teeth on your skin, make a sharp sound or yelp like she's hurting you to get her attention, pull your hands and arms away, stop playing, don't look at her, turn your back if you can.  She'll probably be a little confused at first why you're reacting that way, and once she closes her mouth and realizes that you've stopped playing (a few seconds), praise her and go back to playing.  Do this every time she bites, even if you have to do it every 3 seconds.  It won't take her long to realize play stops when she uses her teeth.

  2. she's just playing, she'll grow out of it but try to punish her when she does start to bite too much so then she'll hopefully stop.

  3. ignore her

  4. Have her "play" with a Pit Bull.

  5. when she does it say NO! in an authoritive manner doesnt have to be tthat loud  worked with my dogs.

  6. Of course tell her "NO" each time she does it. You can also give a alitle whimper like a dog would do if hurt. She will feel bad for doing it, as this is how dogs signal to each other that something did hurt them. The biggest thing though is NOT giving her attention or what she wants when she bites you. Giving her attention or doing what she wants only reinforces and rewards the biting behavior. NEVER give in to it or she'll continue to do it all the time.

  7. You could call a training place...my cat does the same thing...i recommend ignoring her so she gets that she has to stop to play or something..idk

  8. 1.  Yelp like a puppy (this is dog language for you hurt me)turn your back to her (this is dog language for I don't want to play with you)and ignore her for several min. every time she tries to come around turn your back to her do not even look at her!  After several min. make up with her but make sure you have one of her toys to put in her mouth so she cant bite you.

    2.  Yelp like a puppy and then put one of her toys in her mouth.  This is called redirecting.  You correct her first then redirect to what is okay.

Try both methods to see what works best for you, but remember be consistent and don't give up!
