He always gags and spits out the little pieces of solid food I give him. Is he just not ready? He is almost 1 years old.

  1. well i'm not a mommy but I would still think that starting out with bananas would be a good choice because it's solid yet not as hard as other foods. I think that would be a good food for the transition, so it doesn't shock the baby lol.

  2. Doesn't sound like he's ready hon. Every baby is ready at different times.

you'll know when he is really ready when he starts hollering for what is on your plate.

my oldest wasn't interested till almost 13 months, my middle son was about 14 months, my daughter around 12 months, and my youngest son was only 10 months when he started screeching for what i had to eat. i just gave him VERY tiny bites.

he's 11 months now and does very well w/stage 3 foods and with soft solids.

  3. I just went through the same thing YAY! I'm giving her things now that she can hold like a peace of stake cut in a stop or carrot heaps of fruit like apples and paw-paw anything they can hold really and i also got this thing from target called the FRESH FOOD FEEDER

Allows you to give baby fresh solid food such as berries, vegetables or cooked chicken or turkey, without risk of choking.

Snap-lock mesh holds the food have a look at the picture on website below, hope i was able to help.

  4. Also, it would be wise to consult your pediatrician.  There may be other reasons that he isn't taking to the solid foods.

  5. He would have been ready for solids from 6 months if they are pureed!  My little girl is 7months now and I do all her own food of what we eat.  I bought a mini blender (a Lindam one) and do her food and she loves it.  You dont get lumps when their food is blended.  The only reason they gag is if there is too much food on the spoon, the cosistency is too thick or too lumpy.  Speak to your health visitor cause he should be eating solid food ok by now.

  6. start by pulping down your dinners and then slowly pulp them less he should eventually get used to the texture and solids.  Might take a while though

  7. It is texture rather than taste at his age.  Use your food processor and grind, not pulverize foods similar to what he used to eating.  Mix a little in with a small amount of his baby food.  the flavors will be close, the textures similar.  Work with this over the next several weeks, gradually cutting out the baby food all together.  Get him used to eating crackers and Cheerios and beans too.  He will be eating solids sooner than you think.  And continue to eat solids in great amounts until he is old.
