  1. maybe its your sound card

  2. I'm, sorry but i dont know the model no. or make of my p.c.it's second hand. i just bought a sub woofer and five small surround sound speakers and know they are connected to the p.c. correctly but just a sound telling me they work comes from them when i switch them on. then total silence, since 10am this has been driving me crazy .particularly the liars that tell me it will be free to repair then after wasting my time getting email info tell me i have to pay, please help me fix this problem, the speakers were expensive enough as it is, without having to pay for so called 'full versions' to fix problems that really shouldn't be there when the speakers are branfd new

  3. Is the volume control of your OS turned on?

Is the default sound output device set as your sound card?

You can check these settings in the control panel

Is your speaker connected to the right jack? (it should be the light green one on your sound card)

Does your speakers require additional power? Is it turned on? are the wirings secure?

Does it work when you connect your headphones instead of the speakers?

Most speakers shouldn't require drivers, it would just be a simple jack to plug into the sound card, and most USB speakers won't require drivers that your OS doesn't already include.

You have a 5.1 surround sound system for your PC, which is secondhand, with possibly outdated hardware that cannot support 5.1 channels. I would suggest maybe trying just the generic 2 channel or 2.1 channel speakers, and seeing if that works well.

  4. Go to "Sounds & audio devices" in the control panel and set up your speakers there. Be sure to go the the advanced tab to set your volumes.
