My tomato plants have reached a height of almost 6ft and have yet to produce any fruit. I am growing them indoors and they get lots of sunshine and warmth. What do I need to do to make sure I get some tomatoes?

  1. the flowers need to be pollinated!  Thats what the bugs and stuff do outside!!

  2. Tomatoe plants..6FT high? You will get very little fruit if any from these plants, they are far too big. What is happening is that the roots are now putting all their energy into the plant and not into producing fruit. Heres my suggestion, cut about 18" off the top of each plant, you will have several branches coming from the main stem which will then hopefully begin to develope some flower buds which will be the fruit. On each of those branches you will find that there are even more shoot coming through, pinch them out, If you have been feeding them with a high nitrogen fertilizer up to now, stop and let the plant rest a while, it has been very busy up to now trying to maintain it's massive size. Next year pinch the top out of your plants when they reach a height of about 4ft.

  3. Are your plants producing any flowers?  If they are, but then not turning into fruit, you have a pollination problem.  Just tapping and wiggling the plant will pollinate them.  Bees work better, but that is not an option for you!!  If you are not getting any flowers, I would guess that while you think they are getting enough light, they really aren't.  You are getting lots of leggy growth, but not enough light and heat to produce flowers.  Tomatoes really need full sun to grow and unless your indoor plants are in a glass roofed room, it isn't enough light.

  4. Try some bloom builder fertilizer.

  5. They need pollinators first. Then most tomatoes need night time temps in the 60's to set fruit.
