I have a few white shirts that are now less than white! I have tried different detergents and clorox bleach but nothing gets them white again! They are so dingy looking - esp when you put them up to a new white shirt! Any suggestions of how I can get my clothes back to looking like a brand new white?!?!?!?!?!

  1. I keep my whites white using borax. Add 1/2 cup to the wash. Then add 1/2 cup white vinegar to the rinse cycle.

If I find some that look dingy, I follow the above method, except, I add 1/2 cup baking soda and let them soak for 20-30 minutes once the washer is filled. Then continue the wash and add 1 cup white vinegar to the rinse. If you are able dry them in the sun-it is great natural way to bleach.

  2. I soaked all my white tops in oxiclean for a couple days to get them white again.

I have had great results when I soak in oxiclean by my method. It doesn't hurt any fabric, whites or colors. Whites and colors come out looking bright and new. It takes out most every stain, in an hour to three days. I Don't use the package instructions!

Dissolve 1/2 cup oxiclean powder in some hot water, in a bucket or large bowl. Add enough COLD water so the item can soak. Add the COLD water after the oxiclean is dissolved. Let soak till the stain is gone. Sometimes I put a towel on top to keep the item in the water.

Each day as needed Refresh the oxiclean and water. By draining the water and making a new mixture.

I got hair dye, food stains, mold & mildew, grass stains, yellowing from age, under arm stains out, also Bleeding from other colors out, just to name a few tough stains that can be gotten out! (remember to soak in cold water).

  3. Start using borax in your laundry it is all natural and really cheap as well

  4. if it's possible, just hang them outside in the sun for a day or two. the sun is nature's bleach.  give it a try.  i do this with every load of whites, but then i live in greece and it's sunny here most of the time.

Clorox bleach is harmful to the environment and too much of it has a tendency to yellow clothes sometimes...give the sun a try!

  5. There are several ways. One is to boil them after washing & hang them in the sun. Another is to buy Fabric whitener or color remover in the dye section at your store. Use according to package directions. Keeps mine white. I have some white jeans that are 15 yrs. old & they're still dazzling.

  6. Step1

Go to the your local store and purchase a bottle of Liquid Murphys Oil Soap.

    Step2

Collect all of your not so white clothing

    (Example: Socks, underclothing)

    Step3

Place clothes into sink, pan, bathtub, etc. Run warm water into the container.

Pull 1 cup of Murphys Oil Soap into water and mix together. Let soak for about an hour(depending on how much whiter you need)

    Step4

Remove the clothes and place in washer and add your detergent and wash as normal.

You will notice that the whites are whiter and by washing them in your detergent the aroma of Murphys Oil Soap is not present after washing.

Do not use if you are allergic to any ingredients in the Murphys Oil Soap.
