Websites that specialize in finding old records charge a few bucks to view the old notices. Any way to see them for free?

  1. I have yet found a site for this.  Even local newspaper charges a fee. Go directly to source newspaper funeral home. Fee would be smaller.

  2. That is their business.  That is what they do.  It is their little niche in the world that they saw a need for and no one else was doing it, so they do it and they charge for it.  They have a RIGHT to charge for it; and if it cost them any money to get it themselves so they can put it out there for you to get access to, then they are obligated to charge for it to recoup their costs.

  3. Avoid specializing.

Shift your thinking to county based sites (usgenweb is a volunteer site across the US).  Use the internet to find the original newspaper if possible, and contact them directly. Many have email.  Local libraries will often have the archived papers for the area.  That, of course, does not mean that there won't be a fee.

It also helps if you understand that everything is not on the internet.. what IS online, is gravy.  Someone worked to put it there.  Persons see a way to make a living from specializing are going to do that, but they also have an investment in it.

There are millions of genealogical records out there, many of them will be your ancestry.  It's up to you how much you want to find the records.

  4. Try the web sites below, they have both helped me
