I currently have my 403b with AIG Valic retirement. I'm invested diversely in mutual funds, but want to switch my $$$ into cash. yet when i go to do this (upon login) all i see is there "fixed interest option" which is invested in corporate bonds. I don't want this, as this is where the trouble lies. (Indymac)

does anyone out there have AIG Valic, and might be able to suggest what to do. Keep in mind that their Fixed interest option investment is in corporate bonds, and dispite what many think, these are not insured they are only "implied" and with the mortgage problem, banks are going to continue to bankrupt.

  1. Most retirement plans have a money market option which is often referred to as "cash".  If you are not sure if this is available, ask  your HR department.  If you find out that there is no money market investment option, you should suggest that they add one.  It is important to have a range of investment vehicles available so that each investor can put together a portfolio with the risk and return characteristics that they want.
