How do I get out-of-state tuition waived at a public university?

  1. Become a resident.


  2. Are either of your parents active duty military? If so, you may be able to get in-state tuition in any of the states they have been stationed in. Otherwise, schools are very particular about out-of-state tuition. Public universities are funded by the state and the taxpayers. If you or your family haven't been living and paying taxes in the state, you won't qualify. I've never heard of it being waived.

  3. Either prove existing residency or ride out the time frame that the school has and pay the instate rate WHEN you are truly a resident!
