Question:

How do I get plastic wrap out of a drain?

I'm living in an apartment complex, and last night I needed to soak a bunch of bottles in my bathtub so the labels would come off. Unfortunately, the bathtub's plug mechanism was welded so it's unusable, and no plug was provided.

So I figured, no problem, I'll just use a wad of plastic wrap to stop the water flow. Worked great until I removed the bottles this morning and found it was gone. Yup, must have gone down the drain in the middle of the night.

What's the best way to remove the clog myself? My guess is that chemicals (eg. Drano) won't work very well since plastic is so inert. I have a drain snake on order from Amazon, but I'm not sure if it will be very effective. Any thoughts?

  1. DON"T USE NAIL POLISH REMOVER!

It is flammable and could cause problems with the plastic drain pipes.

If the tub is draining properly, you may not need to do anything. The clog may have just gone to the sewer. Otherwise sbaking the drain is your only effective way to get it out.

  2. try a fish hook with a line attached to it. treble hook would work best with a piece of bb shot hooked to the line just at the eye of the hook

  3. Wait for the drain snake, or try a little ridged plastic snake from the hardware store, available for a couple of dollars. It will work if the plastic isn't down too far.

  4. Probably can dissolve it with a couple bottles of nail polish remover.
