I stupidly clicked on a link on Yahoo/Answers for router help and ended up with Antivirus XP2008 on my desktop. I have tried everything to remove it to no success. I have accessed help from microsoft, downloaded Avast, MacAfee, etc. They detected the virus but it still won't let me delete it! HELP!!

  1. it is hard to shift; some people have been able to get rid of it with Malwarebytes Antimalware - free for personal use

  2. try manual removal instructions

  3. IT is a scam!!! I just had a same thing , it took me 2 days to figure out how to remove this virus.

They downloaded many trojans horses and now they want you to buy their software to remove it, ITs a scam!!

Here is how I get rid of it:

    1. Disable system restore - Go to control panal > System > System restore tab and check the box that says “Turn off system restore on all drivers” then restart your pc and tap F8 during startup several times so you can start in safe mode.

    2. Run AVG (you can get a free version off internet)and delete any viruses it detects.

    3. Restart your pc and uncheck the “Turn off system restore on all drivers” Box.

Doing that deletes your system restore files in case the virus is hidden there.

Check to make sure you can change your screensaver and backgrounds for some reason, it disabled those for me. If they’re still disabled after you did the above then Google ''dial-a-fix''. It’s a free program that allowed me to enable the display tabs (Option called policies).

  4. Download the free version of Superantispyware.  Finds viruses and spyware without any conflict to your own antivirus software.  Update and run and in depth scan.  Free you must update daily on a manual basis or purchase and get auto. updates   http://www.superantispyware.com
