I have had a BSOD about once a month for 3 months but recently it has happened every time i log onto my user account (by the way I have A IBM thinkpad and I am using Windows XP sp2). I have started up using safe mode and ran Reg Cure which said I had 887 problems but i dont want to pay to fix them all. I kind of don't want to re install windows but if i have to i will. I am kind of down on cash right now so could you please help me i cannot afford to send my computer in. OH and it is happening so frequently that i am on another family members computer right now because of it.

  1. I'm afraid you can't.  That's your computer's way of telling you that it has a serious problem - probably a corrupted operating system.  However, the good news is that re-installing your operating system, although a bit time consuming, is fairly straight forward and should cure all the problems.

If you haven't already backed up your files, I would do so IMMEDIATELY as it sounds like your computer could crash totally at any time and you will then lose everything.  You can do this in safe mode using DVD's / flash drives / external hard drive depending on the size of your files.  I would also keep a note of any e-mail accounts and other personal settings plus other applications that you have loaded to help simplify the re-installation.

Format the hard drive and re-install operating system as follows:

    1) Insert the operating system disc in the CD / DVD drive

    2) Switch off computer

    3) Switch on and tap the [F12] key continuously until a black screen with the words "Boot Sequence" on it appears

    4) Select CD / DVD RW Drive using the up / down arrows

    5) Press Enter

    6) Follow the instructions for Set up

    7) Once this has finished installing, you will need to repeat the process to install the drivers from a separate disc

    Good luck
